Description

The 21st General Meeting of the International Mineralogical Association will be held from 1 to 5 September 2014 at the Sandton Convention centre in the Gauteng province of South Africa.

As a country with a large mining and mineralogical industry, as well as strong mineralogical, geological and geochemical research initiatives, South Africa is highly appropriate to host this meeting. Most of the mines and mineral occurrences are close to good infrastructure and easily accessible. Other easily accessible southern African countries also boast some outstanding geology and mineral fields.
The content of the more than 70 technical sessions and workshops will reflect all the traditionally most important topics of our science as well as other, locally and internationally relevant topics.

IMA2014 is proud to help celebrate the International Year of Crystallography with the following sessions covering mineralogical crystallography:

  • Crystallography and its Importance in Applied Mineralogy
  • Diffuse Scattering in Minerals
  • Modular Aspects of Mineral Structures
  • Physics, Chemistry and Crystallography of Minerals
  • Relationships Between Surface and Bulk Structure of Layered Minerals
  • Recent Progress in the Crystal Chemistry and Crystal Structure of Minerals
  • General Session - Mineralogical Crystallography

Moreover, the programme will feature the plenary lecture "Cross fertilization of mineralogy and crystallography: A tribute to the International Year of Crystallography at IMA2014" by Wulf Depmeier (University of Kiel, Germany).

Abstract submission is open. Deadline: 28 February 2014
