| Description |
During a period of 4 weeks children from secondary schools have to grow single crystals, this year of alum. The competition is organized by the Belgian National Committee for Crystallography and sponsored by the Royal Academy and Acros Organics. The prize awarding ceremony will take place on 8 May 2013 at the Academy Palace in Brussels where Dr Vande Putte will deliver a lecture on sugar and sugar crystallization. |

| Description | Une conférence grand public d'Ada Yonath Espérance de vie : rêves et réalités (Is there a limit to life expectancy? Wishes, predictions and reality) Conférence tous publics, en anglais, avec traduction simultanée en français L’espérance de vie s’est considérablement accrue au cours du siècle dernier. De nos jours, cette tendance se poursuit, de façon moins marquée toutefois. Si l’usage des antibiotiques dans les traitements médicaux a contribué à cet accroissement, la résistance de l’organisme à ces médicaments peut en expliquer le ralentissement. Les ribosomes, véritables « usines à protéines », sont des macromolécules essentielles pour la vie et les cibles de plusieurs antibiotiques. Au cours de sa conférence, Ada Yonath examinera le lien qui existe entre les ribosomes et l'espérance de vie. Dans le cadre des 100 ans de la cristallographie, le Professeur Ada Yonath, bio-cristallographe et co-récipiendaire du prix Nobel de chimie 2009, donnera deux conférences exceptionnelles à Grenoble. |
