Nineteen nations to meet at IUCr-UNESCO OpenFactory
STOE, DECTRIS & XENOCS ANNOUNCE ACCEPTED YOUNG CRISTALLOGRAPHERS FROM 19 NATIONS FOR THE IUCR-UNESCO OPENFACTORY IN FRANCE AND GERMANY
The IUCr, together with STOE, DECTRIS and Xenocs have now announced the selected delegates for the IUCr-UNESCO OpenFactory in Darmstadt and Grenoble. Delegates are young scientists, from PhD students to Assistant Professors and represent nineteen different countries.
“We were overwhelmed by the high number of applicants. At the same time, we are proud to announce this outstanding group of 21 delegates, who all have demonstrated that they have the potential to become future thought-leaders for crystallography and application of XRD and X-ray scattering in their home country.” said Michele Zema, Head of the International Year 2014 activities at the IUCr.
The IUCr-UNESCO OpenFactory in partnership with STOE, DECTRIS and Xenocs will take place from 10. to 19. September 2014. The delegates receive seven days of intensive training by STOE, DECTRIS and Xenocs staff and guest scientists in cooperation with the IUCr. The training will focus on teaching participants the relevant theoretical skillset as well as include practical training. In Grenoble, the delegates will spend significant time at the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) and will be trained in Small Angle X-ray Scattering at Xenocs’ headquarter. Delegates will have the opportunity to visit beamlines and interact with scientists at the ESRF. In Darmstadt, the participants will be trained in single crystal and powder XRD at STOE’s headquarter. Starting on 18. September, all OpenFactory participants will join the STOE annual user meeting. The user meeting is a platform for the exchange of ideas among participants and includes talks to highlight recent research results achieved. It will be a unique opportunity for the OpenFactory participants to interact with highly experienced XRD users and to build up networks. The program is free of charge for the delegates, as STOE, DECTRIS and Xenocs will cover round-trip flights from the delegates’ home country, accommodation, food and transport costs.
